Primary Engineering: Rail Programme

Our pupils were thrilled to take part in the Primary Engineering: Rail Programme, an exciting hands-on project that combined creativity, design, engineering and problem-solving.

In Year 2, pupils became budding engineers as they designed and built their own trains, each centred around a theme of their choice. Working collaboratively, they explored how braking mechanisms work and incorporated these into their designs, developing their creativity, resilience and critical thinking skills along the way.

Meanwhile, our Year 4 pupils took their engineering challenges even further by designing and constructing trains powered by an electrical circuit, enabling them to move both forwards and backwards. Pupils demonstrated fantastic determination and teamwork as they built wooden frames using basic woodworking techniques before creating and decorating unique train shells to bring their ideas to life.

Throughout the project, learners were supported and inspired by a professional engineer from Stadler Rail, who shared valuable industry knowledge and helped pupils see the exciting possibilities within STEM careers. To celebrate their achievements, parents and carers were invited to a special demonstration afternoon where pupils proudly showcased their finished trains, explained their engineering journey and demonstrated their working models in action. It was a wonderful celebration of innovation, teamwork and the incredible creativity of our young engineers.
